Winter Garage Door Issues

Home School Care & Maintenance

There are several things in winter that can cause issues with your overhead garage door opening or closing. In most cases the door, if it closes/opens partially then returns to the original position, is experiencing these issues:

1. The sensors may be blocked or dirty. Please ensure there’s nothing blocking the sensors and they are clean. If blocked by an object, or dirty, the sensors won’t allow the door to fully operate as a safety measure. Use a dry paper towel, or cloth, to clean the sensors.

2. There may be ice/snow buildup on the apron that’s preventing the door from closing all the way – even if the sensors are clean and not blocked by anything. Use a shovel and/or an ice chipper to clear any snow/ice from the apron and the door should open and close properly
